Students in organic chemistry of Professor Kenneth
O'Connor at Marshall
University (Huntington, West Virginia) use SiliaCat Pd(0) to
learn green synthetic organic chemistry. Professors O'Connor will be
using new handout this coming
Spring to teach the lab to Marshall undergraduates in organic chemistry.
Student will carry out selective hydrogenation of unsaturated esters
under ultramild conditions. The method minimizes the E factor with
respect to green chemistry metrics and is taught as an eminent example
of new green chemistry process. The US team will later on report
achievements in Chemical Educator.

Pagliaro Chosen as Reviewer of the European Doctorate Award
from Madrid's

For the PhD thesis of Rebeca Sánchez
Vázquez entitled "Design of acid heterogeneous catalysts for
the production of second generation biodiesel" which will be defended on
April 26, 2013 at Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid. This thesis has
been supervised by Prof. Juan A. Melero and is included in an overall
project dealing with the biofuels production. Report for a non Spanish
European doctor is compulsory to apply for the European Doctorate Award
and Dr. Pagliario has been proposed due to his outstanding experience in
the field of biomass conversion.
