The conference saw the meeting in nice Aeolian island of about 250 researchers from numerous countries whoe discuss advancements in hydrogen and renewable energy, clean energy technology and sustainability.

A tight scientific program comprised the four days of the conference opened by the plenary lecture of Kaspar Andreas Friedrich on water electrolysis to produce "green" hydrogen.

Enrico Tronconi
gave another plenary lecture on combining electrification with process intensification to enable the transition to cleaner energy technologies and energy sources.

On June 24, Mario Pagliaro gave a presentation on the new Citrus nanocellulose-polymeric ionic liquid composite CytroCell@PIL for enhanced anion exchange membranes jointly developed by his Lab with colleagues from the CNR Institute of Membrane Technology led by Enrica Fontananova.

Therein, he showed how a modest 1 wt% addition of lemon CytroCell to the polymer precursor dispersed in water promotes dramatic enhancement of polymerizable ionic liquid membrane:
Reporting on recent computational and spectroscopy work conducted with Anne-Sylvie Fabiano Tixier, Nicolas Michel and Ana Rosa Garcia, Dr Pagliaro explained what are the unique molecular and nanoscale structural properties of CytroCell nanocellulose sourced from citrus agroindustrial processing waste via cavitation conducted in water only, that lead to such dramatic enhancement of polymer properties.

From Deborah Jones, ICGM France, to Yuye J. Tong, Georgetown University, numerous other eminent scientists gave presentations at the Conference.

Nice videos from the conference can be visualized on Twitter (video 1 - video 2).

Three scientific journals (Chemical Engineering Journal, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, and Journal of Energy Storage) will publish Special Issues of selected works presented at the Conference.
