Mario
Pagliaro3-May-2024Mario Pagliaro has been named an inaugural Highly Ranked Scholar by ScholarGPS, a data science company that operates a large research database of over 200 million publications and 3 billion citations to rank over 30 million scholars and 55,000 institutions worldwide.

Highly Ranked Scholars are those with ScholarGPS Ranks of 0.05% or better amid all scholars worldwide ranked on the basis of productivity (number of publications), impact (citations), and papers of highest impact (h-index).

Ranked 4,835 amid all scholars in all fields, Dr Pagliaro has been awarded Highly Ranked Scholar status based on his accomplishments over the totality of his career (lifetime basis as of December 30, 2022)  and over the prior five years (2018-2022).

Data used by ScholarGPS to identify the Highly Ranked Scholars are based on lifetime or prior five-year activity, weighting each publication and citation by the number of authors, and excluding self-citations. All scholars, including inactive, deceased, and retired scholars, are included.

The ranking is enabled by the generation of over 30 million detailed scholar profiles based on classification of over 200 million scholarly publications of record into one of over 350,000 distinct specialties, 177 disciplines, and 14 fields. Italy has 151 Highly Ranked Scholars. Italy's Reseach Council (the CNR) has three scholars in the ranking: Mario Coccia, a sociologist working in Turin, Vincenzo Di Marzo, a chemist based in Naples who is also Canada excellence research chair at the Université Laval, and Mario Pagliaro, a chemist member of Academia Europaea based in Palermo, Sicily.

Together, in 2021 Mario Pagliaro and Mario Coccia co-authored a study on Italyěs CNR scientific performance between 2000 and 2019, today widely used across the world to inform research policy strategies and magerial work in public research institutes.
